Manufacturing in Chinese: Control is required
Import of industrial equipment from China has long been the norm for Russian and global business. Chinese factories have learned to produce everything from CNC machines to entire production lines. But there’s a flip side to this flexibility: equipment is almost always assembled “for the customer.” And here it is important to understand that behind a beautiful body can hide a very different filling.
How does the equipment system work in China
The Chinese manufacturer usually offers basic platform body, mechanics and basic elements. And then the variability begins:
- motors Chinese or imported;
- automation Local brand or Siemens/Schneider
- guide - own or Japanese;
- sensors - budget or proven world brands.
Visually, two machines may be exactly the same, but inside it will be quality.
Where the risk arises
If the specification is not fixed rigidly, the plant acts as it is more profitable:
- complete the equipment that is in the warehouse;
- puts cheaper analogues;
- Replace details without warning.
Often, the customer only becomes aware of the replacement after the machine is started, when problems with resource, accuracy or reliability begin.
Typical examples of substitutions:
- power supplies;
- controllers and boards;
- sensors and relays;
- servo motors and drives;
- elements of industrial automation.
Some factories go even further – simply do not put part of the components, hoping that the customer “will not notice”. This is especially common if the equipment is shipped without inspection or the buyer trusts the manufacturer at his word.
How to protect yourself
To avoid unpleasant surprises, it is important. prescribe:
- Technical assignment. Detail the list of critical nodes.
- Stamps and models. Specify not only the brand, but also a specific model.
- Replacement condition. Any replacement is only by written agreement.
- Inspectorate. Checking equipment before shipment: visually and by documents.
- Photo and video report. The plant must confirm the installed equipment.
This approach greatly reduces the risk that you’ll get “almost the same” even though you paid for the original.
Chinese brands: trust or not?
Today, China not only copies, but also actively develops its own brands. Industrial automation has already appeared. Strong local producersIt is a quality that catches up with Europeans. But the market is still very heterogeneous: there are dozens of factories near top brands that produce cheap and unstable products.
Therefore, it is important to understand:
- Not all Chinese is the same.
- Local brands have decent solutions.
- Quality depends on the specific plant and level of control.
China can do well. But quality does not come automatically.
To obtain reliable equipment:
- Make your own demands.
- Write them down.
- monitor the execution.
Control is the main tool that turns the “Chinese equipment” into a quality and predictable product.
